Obituary for Norma John Taylor

Norma J. (John) Taylor, 85, of 8013 Old Route 17, Jimersontown, Town of Salamanca, passed away Friday (February 16, 2018) at home with her family by her side.
She was born May 25, 1932 in Gowanda, the daughter of the late Thomas and Maude Bennett John. She attended the Thomas Indian School in Gowanda and was a graduate of the Trott Vocational School of Nursing in Buffalo, where she received her LPN degree.
Norma retired from the Seneca Nation Health Care in Steamburg and Salamanca, she had previously been the Sight manager for the Seneca Nation of Indians Area Office of the Aging, worked as a nurse at the Roswell Park Cancer Hospital, Buffalo General Hospital, and the former Lockwood Nursing Home in Salamanca. She was also a Master Language Teacher for the Seneca Nation.
She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians Wolf Clan, Newtown and Coldspring Longhouse and the AIRVFD in Jimersontown and the Fire Department Auxiliary.
She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, going to the casino, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and sharing the Seneca Language.
She is survived by her husband Donald M. Taylor, whom she married on April 7, 1962, a son; DR. Michael Spencer (Holly Thompson) of Manlius, NY, two daughters; Sharyn Taylor and Kari Taylor (David Frank) all of Salamanca, seven grandchildren; Carli and Edward Buffalo, Leigh and Les McCumber, Lynsey and Louis St. Germaine Jr., Taylor Sullivan (Justin Cook), Dylan Taylor, Reese Thompson Taylor and Quinn Thompson Taylor and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Elaine Seymour in 1962 and 10 Siblings.
The family will receive relatives and friends in the family home all day Monday. Services will be held at the convenience of the family on Tuesday (February20, 2018) Arrangements are entrusted to the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph.
