Obituary for Betty Lou Hoitink Layton

Englewood, Fla. -

Betty Lou Hoitink Layton, 88, of Englewood, Florida, a former resident of Randolph, passed away, Thursday, July 5, 2018 in Reston Hospital Center, while visiting her daughter in Great Falls, Virginia.

She was born April 13, 1930 in Jamestown New York the daughter of the late Leland and Sybil (Samuelson) Hoitink Mrs. Layton was a graduate of Randolph Central School and attended interior design school in Chicago Illinois.

Betty Lou married William Dean Layton on September 9, 1950 in the Randolph Federated Church, which later became the Randolph United Presbyterian Church and they raised their two children in Randolph amidst a large and loving extended family. Betty volunteered and worked at the Randolph Gail N. Chapman Elementary School.

She was a member of the Randolph Fidelity Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Randolph American Legion auxiliary unit 181. She was a former member of the Randolph United Presbyterian Church and after moving to Florida in 1980, became a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice Florida. She also went on to become a certified nursing assistant in home healthcare, serving the field for 20 years.

Surviving are her daughter Billie Lee (Eric) Wells of Great Falls, Virginia, grandson Kyle B. Wells (Jaci) of Reston, Va., granddaughter Darci Wells of Rochester New York, two great-grandchildren Joshua and Leah, and many loving nieces and nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband William D Layton on May 28, 2003, her son Blake W Layton in 1975, her siblings Alberta “Birdie” Clark, Leland Hoitink, William Hoitink, and Janet House.

The family will receive family and friends from 2-5 PM, Saturday (July 14, 2018) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph, NY. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the Randolph United Presbyterian Church. Rev. Molly Golando will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in the Randolph Cemetery.
